Sentinel Lymph Node

What is the Sentinel Lymph Node?

In the breast, there is a network of lymphatic vessels that drain fluid and cells to the lymph nodes located in the armpit (axilla). When breast cancer cells begin to break away from the tumor in the breast, the first place they travel to is the network of lymph nodes under the arm. The very first lymph node that the breast cancer cells target is the Sentinel Lymph node.
