Axillary Biopsy  

What is an axillary biopsy?

An axillary biopsy (also called axillary dissection) is the surgical removal of the axillary nodes (i.e., the lymph nodes in the armpit) as biopsy specimens. In the laboratory, the biopsy specimen is studied, and examined under the microscope for the presence of cancer.
