Alcohol and Risk

Is there a link between alcohol and breast cancer?

Yes. Studies suggest that women drinking one alcoholic beverage (defined as 5 ounces of wine, 12 ounces of beer, or 1 ounce of liquor) a day have a 9% greater risk of breast cancer. Women drinking 2 to 4 alcoholic beverages per day had a 40% greater risk of the disease than did non-drinkers. For the purposes of the study, an alcoholic beverage is defined as 16 ounces of beer, 8 ounces of wine, or a shot of hard liquor.
