Side Effects of Tamoxifen  

Are there any side effects with tamoxifen?

Common side effects associated with tamoxifen citrate (the generic name for the brand-name medication, Nolvadex) include:

• Hot flashes
• Irregular menstrual cycles
• Unusual vaginal discharge or bleeding
• Irritation of skin around the vagina

Also, women who take tamoxifen may have a somewhat higher risk of the following:

• Blood clots (i.e., deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary emboli)
• Uterine (i.e., endometrial) cancer
• Cataracts
