Ondansetron is the generic name for the brand-name anti-emetic drug, Zofran. Anti-emetic drugs are prescription medications used to prevent and treat certain kinds of nausea and vomiting that can occur with some types of chemotherapeutic drugs for various types of cancer and/or radiation therapy administered to certain parts of the body other than the breast.
Anti-emetics are in a class of drugs called serotonin receptor antagonists, which act on the parts of the brain that trigger nausea and vomiting.
