Palmar-Plantar Erythrodysesthesia (PPE)  

What is palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia?

Palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia (abbreviated PPE), which also is called hand and foot syndrome, involves the following types of symptoms on the skin of the palms of hands and the soles of feet:[1]

• Peeling of skin
• Redness of skin
• Itching of skin
• Burning sensation of skin

PPE can occur as a side effect of certain types of chemotherapy.[1] If you experience PPE as a side effect of chemotherapy, consult your medical oncologist and oncology nurse for guidance on managing the side effect.
