Nipple Discharge

What is nipple discharge?

Nipple discharge is fluid (clear, milky, grey, tan, bloody, or green) that is released by the nipple.

Nipple discharge can occur due to several causes, including:

• Lactation (i.e., production of milk)
• Infection in the breast
• Inflammation of the breast
• Other benign (non-cancerous) conditions (such as fibrocystic disease) of the breast
• Breast cancer

If you are concerned that you are experiencing nipple discharge, consult your doctor for a diagnosis to determine the cause and receive appropriate treatment.
