A chemotherapy regimen consists of the treatment plan, including:
• The specific type or types of chemotherapy drug(s) to be used
• The specific dose of the drug or drugs to be used
• The timing that the chemotherapy treatment will be given in relation to the timing of diagnosis and the timing of other types of treatments used
• The duration (length of time) that the chemotherapy treatment will be given
If the chemotherapy regimen involves a combination of different types of chemotherapy drugs, it is called combination chemotherapy.
Chemotherapy drugs are medications intended to slow the growth of cancer cells, reduce the spread of cancer cells within the body, and, ideally, eliminate cancer cells from the body.
