Healing Wheel

What is a healing wheel?

In contemporary times, a Healing Wheel is a community dedicated to healing. The concept of the generation of healing energy fields from communities comes from a blend of many cultures, including Native American, Tibetan Buddhism, and other spiritual practices.

For example, certain Native American tribes had the tradition of the Medicine Wheel for shamanic healing practices. A Prayer Wheel in Tibetan Buddhism is a sacred object, a rotating cylinder containing prayers and chants (mantras) about compassion. The cylinder is attached to a handle that is held in the hand. Tibetan Buddhists believe that the clockwise spinning of the Prayer Wheel produces blessings.

Some contemporary spiritual writers describe a Healing Wheel as having four parts:

• The healer (including medical and spiritual healers)
• The patient
• The community
• The universe or a divine entity

In a Healing Wheel community, members of the Healing Wheel meditate and pray, sending healing energy to community members, including those who ask specifically for prayer and healing.

Scientific studies have confirmed the positive power of prayer in healing, as well as demonstrating that people who are prayed for have better outcomes.
