Vinorelbine is the generic name for the brand-name drug, Navelbine, a chemotherapeutic drug of the type known as vinca alkaloids.
Inside cancer cells, vinorelbine interferes with structures involved in the cell cycle, thereby blocking multiplication of the cancer cell. Also, treatment with vinorelbine blocks synthesis of DNA, RNA, proteins, and lipids inside cancer cells; inhibits respiration of cancer cells; and suppresses other metabolic processes in cancer cells.

Some women with breast cancer of Stage IIIB and higher or recurrent breast cancer receive adjuvant (i.e., post-surgical) treatment with vinorelbine alone or in combination with other types of chemotherapeutic drugs. For example, some women with breast cancer of Stage IIIB and higher or recurrent breast cancer receive adjuvant treatment with vinorelbine and the anthracycline, epirubicin.
