Breast Cancer in Men

Can men get breast cancer?

Yes, breast cancer can occur in a man or in a woman. However, the incidence rate (i.e., the annual number of new cases) of breast cancer in men is low. In 2005, approximately 1,300 men in the United States (U.S.) were diagnosed with breast cancer.

Among men, breast cancer represents about 0.22% of cancer deaths. An estimated 400 men in the U.S. died of breast cancer in 2005. Early detection and initiation of treatment can improve the outcome of breast cancer in men.
