No one knows for certain what causes breast cancer in men. However, the risk for breast cancer in a man are throught to be increased by several factors, including:
Klinefelter's syndrome, a rare genetic condition
Testicular dysfunction and other conditions causing hormone imbalance
Previous radiation treatment to the chest
Family history (male or female) of breast cancer. For example, mutations (abnormalities) in the BRCA2 gene may increase the risk.
Age. The average age at diagnosis of men with breast cancer is 65.
