Breast cancer (breast carcinoma) in situ is non-invasive, meaning that it is contained within the ducts or lobules in the breast and has not spread to the surrounding tissue.
There are two possible locations within the breast of this early stage of breast cancer, called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS). DCIS and LCIS represent about 15% to 20% of all cases of breast cancer.
Excellent treatments are available for breast cancer in situ.
