Spiral computed tomography (also called a spiral CT scan) is a method that utilizes an x-ray tube that revolves around the patient in order to display 3-dimensional images of parts of the body on a computer screen.
Purposes for spiral CT scans include:
• Diagnosing the presence of tumors (even small masses) or other abnormalities
• Helping to determine whether a tumor is non-cancerous (i.e., benign) or cancerous (i.e., malignant)
