Needle localization is a method that can be used to help locate a mass during a surgical biopsy of breast tissue that looked suspicious on a mammogram.
Anesthesia may be used for a needle localization and biopsy of the breast. During the needle localization procedure, x-rays are performed to help guide a thin needle into the appropriate region of the breast.
By using the path of the needle as a guide, the surgeon is aided in finding the abnormal area to be removed as the biopsy specimen. |
