To understand why pH-neutral blood is a critical element of good health, it helps to understand the role oxygen plays in disease prevention. Oxygen-rich blood is essential to good health. If oxygen levels in the blood fall, the body is less able to fight off infection and disease. Think of it this way: oxygen is cancerís enemy.
Most people are born with a body tissue pH near or around 7 ó considered a neutral pH. If you can keep your body tissue pH somewhere between 6.5 - 7.0, it is very difficult to get sick. Although your blood serumís pH never fluctuates, your body tissue pH level changes, depending on what kind of foods you consume. Acidic foods cause the body tissue pH levels to fall, whereas more alkaline foods help keep body tissue pH neutral. Alkaline tissue holds 20 times more oxygen than does acidic tissue. An oxygen-rich environment is critical for combating the growth of anaerobic bacteria (i.e.: bacteria that grow in the absence of oxygen) In contrast, cancer can thrive in an oxygen-deficient (hypoxic) environment. Most cancer patients tested have very acidic body tissue pH, around 4 or 5.
If the pH level of your saliva or urine is too acidic, you can help alkalize your body with supplements and food. But the first step it to purchase some disposable litmus strips of paper that measure pH level either with a saliva or urine sample. These litmus paper strips work very quickly, allowing you to get a reading in just a few seconds. This is the best way to monitor your bodyís response to foods and supplements.
If your pH level is too acidic in the 4 to 5 range, calcium lactate supplements can be introduced to help alkalize (i.e. reduce the acidity in) the body. When taking calcium lactate supplements, is important to test your pH regularly to assure that your body does not become too alkaline. But the surest way to assure a constant and consistent neutral body pH is by watching what you eat. Every food we eat and digest leaves either an acid or an alkaline ash in the body, depending on the mineral composition of the food. Meats and dairy products are highly acidic foods, whereas green vegetables and tuberous fruits are alkaline. To maintain a neutral pH in your bodyís tissues, about 75% of the foods you eat should be alkalizing.
