Finding and Participating in Clinical Trials for Breast Cancer Patients

How can I find a clinical trial on treatment that I could participate in as a breast cancer patient?

Some clinical trials (i.e., clinical studies) on therapy for breast cancer patients focus on one or more of the following treatment issues:

• Treatment
• Supportive therapy

To find a clinical trial on treatment and/or supportive therapy that you can participate in as a breast cancer patient, you can:

• Contact your oncologist

• Search the National Cancer Institute's (NCI's) online database of clinical trials (www.cancer.gov/search/clinical trials/) on cancer that are being conducted in the United States

• Call the toll-free number of the National Cancer Information Service at 1-800-4-CANCER (1-800-422-6237) to help you find a clinical trial on cancer in NCI's online database at the website address listed above

• Search the National Institutes of Health’s online database (http://clinicaltrials.gov) of clinical trials on various illnesses that currently are being studied in the United States

Be aware that each clinical trial on treatment of breast cancer has its own guidelines to determine whether a particular patient has an appropriate condition and medical history suitable for participation in the specific trial.
