Neoadjuvant therapy is treatment given to shrink a tumor prior to surgical removal of the tumor or the affected organ.
For example, neoadjuvant chemotherapy (treatment with chemotherapeutic drugs) or neoadjuvant hormone therapy (treatment with medications that affect the production, binding, or action of hormones) is administered to some cancer patients before surgery in order to make all or more of the tumor more feasible to remove surgically and/or to make the surgical procedure easier to perform.
