Risk of Death in Men with Breast Cancer

Are men with breast cancer more likely to die of their disease than are women with breast cancer?

In the past, the prognosis for men with breast cancer was thought to be worse than that for women, but this now has been shown not to be true. Stage for stage, the survival rates of breast cancer are equal in men and women. In other words, men and women with the same stage of breast cancer have a similar outlook for survival.

Although in the past, men with breast cancer were more frequently diagnosed with more advanced stages of disease, this may no longer be true.
